Dear Friend,

In the years that I’ve been guiding people on the path of spiritual awakening, I’ve never ceased to be awed at the transformational power of bringing people together on retreat.

When we leave the cares and concerns of our busy lives behind and give our focused attention to what matters most, we open the door to profound spiritual breakthroughs that might otherwise take decades of daily practice to discover.

The force of our collective intention and the depth of our collective attention seems to create an exponential transformative effect in which the efforts made by each of us mysteriously elevate all of us.

In the past, my retreats have generally been limited to active participants in Integral Enlightenment programs, but last summer I held my first ever public meditation retreat for five days in the Colorado rockies.

The result was nothing short of remarkable.

At the end of the retreat, one person after another shared with me that this five-day immersion in meditation had given them access to a depth of spiritual insight and awakening that had previously eluded them—in many cases even after decades of spiritual practice.

Even more remarkable is the fact that over the months that have passed since the retreat, I’ve heard from so many people that the retreat marked a turning point in their spiritual lives which has now rippled out to impact every area of life, from their intimate relationships to their work, to their leadership, to their parenting.

This experience has only reinforced my conviction that taking extended time to meditate is essential for any of us who want to ground our life in a deeper source of wisdom and compassion.

More than ever, I believe that meditation can change our lives and through that, it can help change the world.

That’s why I’m excited to announce that this summer, from August 10-16, I’ll be hosting my second annual meditation retreat: Awakening to our True Nature: A Journey to the Heart of Enlightenment.

If you’re ready to discover the extraordinary potential waiting for you in the depths of meditation, I’d like to invite you to join us for this journey into the deepest part of who we are.

On the pages below, you can read all about what you can expect from the retreat. If you feel called to join us in the depths of our true nature, I look forward to meeting you in August.

With Love,

An Invitation to Let Go

Meditation has long been hailed as a sacred portal into the depths of our essential nature.

If you’re reading this page, you probably know that when you take the time to meditate deeply, sincerely, and with focused attention, you’re able to bring to life a full presence and authenticity that uplifts everything you touch.

What often presents a challenge, however, is finding the time, space and structure to follow that potential of meditation to its deepest and furthest edges.

shutterstock_115025212---400But imagine where your practice could take you if you could invest yourself in a holistic experience entirely devoted to providing you with support, guidance, momentum and pristine surroundings—everything you need to fully explore the life-changing experience of meditation.

That convergence of catalytic elements is precisely what Craig Hamilton has created with Awakening to Our True Nature: A Journey to the Heart of Enlightenment.

This week-long immersive retreat combines Craig’s unique approach and compassionate teaching, intense collective energy, and a thoughtfully designed environment—to take you to the very heart of meditative awakening.

This precious alchemy of time, space, guidance and structure fuels a journey to ultimate depth and discovery.

Held lovingly in a safe container, with expert instruction, the momentum of group practice, ample time, and sacred space, you can let go fully—and gain access to the pure, authentic practice of enlightenment itself.

You’ll touch deeply and fully into the divinity and essence of your own true nature, and emerge awakened to unforgettable insight, clarity and freedom.

And you’ll have ignited, at your core, a fire for spiritual practice that will sustain itself long after you’ve returned to the complexities of daily life.

This is an experience that will last not only for a week, but for a lifetime.

The three keys: focus, community, and expert guidance

Whether you’ve been trying to get a meditation practice off the ground, or have been meditating for years, this retreat is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a powerful synthesis of key elements that promote real depth.

Craig HamiltonThere’s no substitute for getting away from it all to focus on your practice and your own growth. At every level of experience, the retreat environment supports your access to the infinite depth and profound presence that’s possible through meditation.

This retreat offers you a beautiful and safe space to experiment, get your most urgent questions answered, and share your growth and learning with comrades on the path.

The experience is carefully designed to provide the key elements that create maximum impact for you during and after a retreat:

Many of us feel a strong yearning to take a break from life’s pressures and chaos, and devote time and focus to what matters most in our spiritual development. Yet in everyday life, all too often we lack the time to make this a priority. At this retreat, far from the daily whirlwind and close to nature, you’ll be able to focus in a way we’re rarely able to in our complex daily lives. The intensity, structure, and lack of distraction allows you to progress quickly and penetrate deeply in your practice. You can make radical leaps in your understanding, and integrate your learning into your very being.

It was a vital and a tremendous gift to have uninterrupted time to step outside of our busy lives and be still and quiet in the meditative space together. There is a focus and spaciousness that comes with not having to get up and go anyplace else. I feel like we accomplish so much more when we can devote ourselves to this. The meditative stream is much more intense and I feel like we’re really getting somewhere in our practice.

– Tim Jordan, California

Have you ever gone to a personal growth workshop or spiritual retreat and found it surprisingly easy to break through to new ground within yourself—even in areas you previously struggled with on your own?

three-people-meditation2That experience (which we’ve seen again and again at our retreats) owes to the commitment and cohesion of the group. The support, camaraderie and resonant collective field creates momentum for deeper experiences and greater understanding.

At this retreat, you’ll be surrounded by others who share your aspirations for a deeper practice that will genuinely benefit life and the world. You’ll be fueled by a motivation you don’t always get practicing alone. The collective energy and inspiration will accelerate you to significant leaps—breakthroughs that last long after the retreat is over.

The opportunity to be with Craig and this community in person is incredible! There is so much deep caring and love flowing when we gather in one space together. Craig does a beautiful job to support us in co-creating a safe and powerful container to deepen our practice.

– Lisa Kramer, Pennsylvania

Nothing compares with being in “the field” with one’s tribe! The boost gets carried even beyond the retreat and supports ever-deepening practice and discovery. It required a lot of me to get there and participate, but the rewards were so worth it.

– Deborah Ham, Oregon

If you’re like many people, you may have dabbled or experimented with different practices, yet never had hands-on instruction with an experienced teacher. You may be limited by lack of education about the basics or about how to navigate common pitfalls. This can impede your ability to awaken fully into the wholeness and liberation that’s possible through meditation.

retreat-photo-10The live guidance at this retreat will provide a much more direct entré into the core purpose of meditation. Craig’s skillful, intuitive teaching and his mastery of this particularly accessible approach will lead you into depths that so often prove elusive when you’re “wandering” alone.

You’ll develop a capacity to truly let go that might take you much longer to achieve on your own. And you’ll return home with confidence and a sense of direction, aided by ample context and tools to help you go further over time with an enriching, expansive practice.

I am even more of a fan of Craig’s after this experience! He clearly lives his teaching with spiritual intelligence, compassion, flexibility, and appropriate, in-the-moment humor. And he expects that we all can–and we are called to–do the same.

– Holly Wells, Oregon

THE FUSION OF THESE ESSENTIALS, all unique to the live retreat experience, lays the ground for genuine breakthroughs in meditation. The impact of these new openings will reverberate throughout your practice and your life—even after you’ve returned home.

A different kind of meditation retreat

In addition to intense focus, vibrant group energy and live expertise, there are some leading-edge elements that give this retreat even greater transformative power.

Craig’s approach is the culmination of several decades of innovation in meditation and collective practice, and this retreat brings these developments into holistic alignment. These key dimensions have made the promise of meditation a reality for thousands of people:

Bringing meditation to life—a modern innovation in living spirituality

Meditation RetreatOne of the challenges almost everyone faces on a spiritual path is the way our practice almost inevitably becomes separate from the life we’re actually living.

Craig’s emphasis on the vital link between meditation and daily life eliminates the confusion about what the practice really has to do with life “off the cushion.”

Craig’s work is in itself an innovation in melding spiritual life and daily life, offering a path to the seamless fusion of the two. He’s developed groundbreaking ways to infuse every moment of life with our spiritual learning and enlightenment—a “24/7 spirituality” in which life becomes our spiritual practice, and enlightenment is expressed in action.

At this retreat, you’ll discover how you can deeply align your being with the very source of wisdom, creativity, and care that you tap into during meditation. You’ll be able to align your motivations with that depth to truly bring it into the world.

And you’ll discover how ultimately, the meditative practice of letting go is a support for our fullest expression of care for the world—not a departure from it.

An awakening that changes everything

There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of specific types of meditation being practiced throughout the world. The transformational yet remarkably accessible approach pioneered by Craig Hamilton is a unique blend of traditional and modern influences.

meditating-sunlightThis approach draws from the most vital and enlightening wisdom of the time-tested contemplative traditions. Yet it’s also infused with contemporary psychological insight, and an understanding of the evolution of human consciousness.

Bringing this ancient wisdom up to date in an accessible 21st-century form, this meditation points you far beyond mere health benefits, stress reduction, or even mindfulness.

The finely-tuned meditation approach that we’ll extensively explore at this retreat is a profound pathway to enlightenment in the fullest sense. In awakening to your own infinite depth—a dimension of who we are that the mind can’t grasp, and that is beyond the “false self” or ego—we come home to ourselves in a way that also transforms life outside meditation.

Having touched into the transcendent through these multiple avenues of exploration, we then find ourselves bringing that extraordinary freedom and depth back into the world. We are liberated to truly meet life.

Certainly, such profound liberation does translate into benefits we can see and touch. Practiced regularly, this approach to meditation develops and strengthens our most extraordinary human capacities.

The meditation taught at this retreat is designed especially to:

  • awaken us to an intuitive source of wisdom beyond the mind
  • cultivate a deep experience of our true and infinite nature
  • help break up our most hardwired human habits of consciousness
  • bring awareness and presence to every moment
  • “cleanse” our intentions and vision so that we are free from unconscious attachments, distortion and agendas

These deepest experiences and shifts then change how we respond to life. It allows us to meet each moment with greater clarity and wisdom. It builds our strength of will to respond to the clarity we see. It promotes a conscious and wholehearted response to any circumstance.

Craig has customized and refined this approach into an instructive journey that brings about consistent, tangible openings for meditators. He’s invested three decades of personal and professional inquiry, collaboration and practice into developing this meditation approach, and taught it successfully to more than 6,000 people in over 50 countries around the world.

Learn the power of meditative “cross-training”

If you’ve ever felt like you’re in a rut with your practice, this retreat is the wakeup to dynamism and diversity you need. Craig’s unique meditative “cross-training” approach is one of the distinctive aspects of this retreat. It lays a broad foundation for a strong, grounded, sustainable practice and opens infinite possibilities for expansion and a lifetime of meditation.

Meditative cross-training provides a diversity of options to stretch and strengthen different “muscles” in consciousness. When you “flex” these inner “muscles,” you discover multiple access points and doorways to depth. And you virtually eliminate boredom in your practice (a common complaint among meditators).

In addition to this diverse body of meditative wisdom, you’ll get to explore brand-new meditation innovations that have been pioneered in Craig’s ongoing programs. For example, a new type of shared meditation was developed at a previous retreat—a fusion of leading-edge dialogue practice with meditation. You’ll have the option to explore this remarkably effective new practice and other new approaches that might emerge on this retreat!

Thanks to these innovations, this retreat will deeply and fully bring meditation to life.

“I’m walking away with a completely different insight into the importance of meditation, that I never fully appreciated. I understand the real reasons why we meditate, the real purpose. I’m going home with a drive and resolve, and I can now touch into a different place when I meditate.

– Philip Wisener, New Jersey

Overcome your struggles with meditation

Even though you may know meditation is valuable, you may not be having the fullest experience it can offer. You may have experienced how challenging it can be to maintain—or even begin—a satisfying, productive practice.

If you’ve become frustrated with your meditation efforts or lack of results, you’re not alone—and this retreat and its meditative methods are designed to help.

One of the biggest breakthroughs you’re bound to experience at this retreat is the elimination of common but overlooked obstacles to meditation.

Over the past few decades, Craig has clearly identified a handful of extremely common missteps that consistently throw people off course and divert them from meditation’s potentials.

Meditation RetreatCraig’s clear and easy-to-follow identification of these common “meditation mistakes” allows you to overcome lifelong blocks to meditative depth—almost instantly. We receive consistent feedback that discovering and clearing away these barriers to meditation is one of the most helpful aspects of our meditation programs.

At this retreat, you’ll uncover and overcome your own meditation “blocks,” and learn to avoid falling into common “meditation traps.” You’ll find out how to meditate in a way that sidesteps these entirely, opening a clear path in front of you.

Reflections from previous Integral Enlightenment Retreats

Here’s what students have to say about retreats led by Craig Hamilton:

What a powerful opportunity for growth! Real work came out of this; hidden perceived limitations were revealed that I am still releasing. There were also intense experiences of Oneness and shared spiritual communion that feeds my heart and soul, and inspires me to push on.
Cathy Ramsey, Texas

Meeting live with Craig and this community was such a rich, deep and wonderful experience. And to my surprise, a lot of the really valuable insights happened while in silence together. The experience from the retreat is still alive!
Annette Dock, Netherlands

Since leaving the retreat, I find it easier to let go and allow in my daily life; find myself waking with a smile and relaxed sense of freedom. I find myself following a subtle guidance that is different from the familiar ego need to defend the status quo. Thank you!
Claire Paul, California

I don’t like to throw around the word ‘transformed,’ but I believe I left this experience transformed, and remarkably, stayed that way. The power and momentum afforded by live instruction, inside this unique space, was beyond description. The work was practical, but the immersion provided a depth that propelled me in real ways. Life has never been the same, in the best possible sense.
Robyn Landis, Arizona

This became a springboard for an expansion in awareness and entirely new experiences. The possibility for ever-expanding awareness felt infinite.
C. Smith

Extremely powerful and impactful, and it’s still having a profound impact on me. I find my meditation deepening and also finding it uplifting my day-to-day life.
Rick Bissonnette, Ohio

Seeing how Craig models this teaching, how he is flexible to what is needed in the moment, is inspiring. He changes the agenda with ease and humour; shares his own path with an authentic, transparent joyful expression, at the same time respecting each unique experience.
Anne Bell

What participants have said about meditation programs by Craig Hamilton:

These meditations have opened up a whole new world for me. My mood is typically elevated and bright (often causing others to joke about wanting some of whatever I am “on”), and I continuously experience a sense of groundedness which allows my responses to be more measured, appropriate and clear. Probably one of the best things I have ever done for myself and for the world–I highly recommend it!
Susan Friese, Virginia

I’ve studied Buddhism for ten years and probably have tried every form of meditation under the sun—following my breath, staring at a candle flame, chanting a mantra, etc., but I’ve found no more powerful meditation than these practices that Craig offers. Craig’s approach is simple but profound. His multiple-meditation approach means that you will definitely find one that works for you. I find his skillful guidance a great doorway to accessing deeper states of being. By practicing these meditations daily, I am able to remain consistently more centered and serene during the day, much more than I had with any of the meditations I’d done previously.
Jeff Sullivan, New Hampshire

The difference these meditations have made in my life is profound. I have a command of my relationship to my mind and feelings that I never imagined possible. I have clarity and discernment about which thoughts are ‘worth listening to’—and which ones to ignore. And nearly all the time I have a choice about responding, rather than instantly identifying with thoughts. On the rare occasions that I begin to skip or get lax with my meditation, I can now see the outcome in my life, in stark contrast to the results of regular practice. I see meditation as essential now, like good food, exercise, and sleep–and the best part is, I love the practice.
Simone Thailer, New York

As a result of engaging these practices, I have noticed increasing calmness, less reactivity to others, more focus, and an almost natural desire to continue to deepen my connection with reality.
Judy Voruz, Oregon

Before these meditations, my practice consisted primarily of relaxation meditation after yoga class, and focused mantra meditation. While these practices were enjoyable, neither introduced me to the experience of separating my thoughts from my being–that I am more than these jumbled emotions and running commentary that dominate my every waking moment. When I started to meditate with Craig, I was given clear guidance on how to do just that–observe and become aware of this essence–and for an hour a day I could rest in a place of unresponsive simple awareness.
Laura Christopher, District of Columbia

A window into the retreat experience

How will our days be structured?

Meditation RetreatDuring the first six days of the retreat, we’ll meditate together several times each day. Meditation periods will be of differing lengths, and the practices will vary in structure.

The diversity of specific meditation practices is a powerful element of Craig’s unique approach. Although each practice leads toward the same fundamental place—a doorway into the infinite depth of your own nature—we discover a variety of “roads” leading to that profound awareness and freedom. This makes the journey an unfolding adventure, and increases the likelihood of finding a “road” that takes you to your greatest depth.

In between practice periods, Craig will discuss and take questions about meditation. There will be sharing and group interactive work to help draw out vital insights and concretely ground your experiences.

In addition to tried-and-true methods, we’ll weave in optional experiments in co-meditation, a new meditative “technology” Craig premiered at his last retreat for graduate students. It has since become a popular practice in the Integral Enlightenment graduate community.

Co-meditation is a powerful blend of meditation and dialogue. Pairs or small groups (three to six people) meditate out loud together—sharing their meditation as it happens so that the whole group merges into a single field of practice.

Many participants report that co-meditation gives them much faster, deeper access to profound meditative states than other practices they’ve tried.

Note: Co-meditation instruction and sessions will be offered as an option a few times during the retreat, but for those who wish to only meditate individually and in silence, co-meditation will not be required.

We’ll be in silence throughout the first six days, except for optional co-meditation and any sharing and discussion with Craig and the group. This will include silent mealtimes and meditative time even when we’re not in session together.

Who will be joining us for this retreat?

group-circleThis retreat will be a global gathering of evolutionaries—people who care passionately about evolution and our future as well as their own higher development. If you sense our potential to consciously evolve and are wanting to participate in the great experiment of moving human consciousness forward, you’ll find kindred spirits at this retreat.

Individuals from more than 50 countries have participated in other programs with Craig Hamilton. They’ll be joining us from all over the world as we explore meditation’s potential to support our highest aspirations and the most meaningful expression of our true nature.

While some of your fellow retreat-goers may be experienced meditators and others just beginning to explore its power, you’ll be diving into this potent dimension of spiritual practice with companions from all professions and walks of life. It’s a perfect place to connect with your “tribe” and make spiritual friends who share your core values and aspirations.

Integration: The Final Frontier

On the final day of the retreat, we’ll have a crucial all-day integration session where we explore what meditation really has to do with the rest of our lives. On this day, we’ll discover how to relate powerfully to this experience of our own depth and authentic nature, and we’ll learn how to cultivate our newfound awareness and insights.

LEEP RetreatCraig’s successful integration process includes discussion, shared inquiry, exercises and practices. We’ll be prepared to go back to our lives grounded in our new awareness, moved by our experience, and ready to meditate regularly—in a context that nurtures our practice and our living.

This final day, presenting an often-overlooked “bridge” back to life, is a potent and unique element of Craig’s retreats. Instead of sending you away wondering how to sustain the openings and awakenings you’ve achieved during our time together, this integration day will help you integrate them so that they continue to inform and infuse your life long after the retreat is over.
