In the years that I’ve been guiding people on the path of spiritual awakening, I’ve never ceased to be awed at the transformational power of bringing people together on retreat.

When we leave the cares and concerns of our busy lives behind and give our focused attention to what matters most, we open the door to profound spiritual breakthroughs that might otherwise take decades of daily practice to discover.

The force of our collective intention and the depth of our collective attention seems to create an exponential transformative effect in which the efforts made by each of us mysteriously elevate all of us.

In the past, my retreats have generally been limited to active participants in Integral Enlightenment programs, but last summer I held my first ever public meditation retreat for five days in the Colorado rockies.

The result was nothing short of remarkable.

At the end of the retreat, one person after another shared with me that this five-day immersion in meditation had given them access to a depth of spiritual insight and awakening that had previously eluded them—in many cases even after decades of spiritual practice.

Even more remarkable is the fact that over the months that have passed since the retreat, I’ve heard from so many people that the retreat marked a turning point in their spiritual lives which has now rippled out to impact every area of life, from their intimate relationships to their work, to their leadership, to their parenting.

This experience has only reinforced my conviction that taking extended time to meditate is essential for any of us who want to ground our life in a deeper source of wisdom and compassion.

More than ever, I believe that meditation can change our lives and through that, it can help change the world.

That’s why I’m excited to announce that this summer, from August 10-16, I’ll be hosting my second annual meditation retreat: Awakening to our True Nature: A Journey to the Heart of Enlightenment.

A window into the retreat experience

How will our days be structured?

Meditation RetreatDuring the first six days of the retreat, we’ll meditate together several times each day. Meditation periods will be of differing lengths, and the practices will vary in structure.

The diversity of specific meditation practices is a powerful element of Craig’s unique approach. Although each practice leads toward the same fundamental place—a doorway into the infinite depth of your own nature—we discover a variety of “roads” leading to that profound awareness and freedom. This makes the journey an unfolding adventure, and increases the likelihood of finding a “road” that takes you to your greatest depth.

In between practice periods, Craig will discuss and take questions about meditation. There will be sharing and group interactive work to help draw out vital insights and concretely ground your experiences.

In addition to tried-and-true methods, we’ll weave in optional experiments in co-meditation, a new meditative “technology” Craig premiered at his last retreat for graduate students. It has since become a popular practice in the Integral Enlightenment graduate community.

Co-meditation is a powerful blend of meditation and dialogue. Pairs or small groups (three to six people) meditate out loud together—sharing their meditation as it happens so that the whole group merges into a single field of practice.

Many participants report that co-meditation gives them much faster, deeper access to profound meditative states than other practices they’ve tried.

Note: Co-meditation instruction and sessions will be offered as an option a few times during the retreat, but for those who wish to only meditate individually and in silence, co-meditation will not be required.

We’ll be in silence throughout the first six days, except for optional co-meditation and any sharing and discussion with Craig and the group. This will include silent mealtimes and meditative time even when we’re not in session together.

Nestled under a canopy of redwoods in the beautiful Santa Cruz California mountains, Mount Madonna Center (MMC) is where we’ll gather for the Integral Enlightenment 2014 Summer Retreat. Its serene and peaceful environment provides a safe and supportive container for our gathering. Take a deep breath and settle into surroundings that foster relaxation, reflection and rejuvenation.

MMC is located atop Mount Madonna with a spectacular view of Monterey Bay. The open meadows and redwood forests include hiking trails, a pond for swimming, a hot tub, and massage and herbal steam bath facilities.

Lodging at Mount Madonna

Mount-Madonna-3Mount Madonna Center’s beautiful campus-like grounds offer a variety of accommodation options. If you prefer indoor lodging, there are comfortable triple rooms and dormitory-style rooms available in the main Center buildings. (Single and double room lodging options are currently SOLD OUT). If you enjoy a rustic natural setting, tents (equipped with two foam mattresses) are available to rent (or you may bring your own) as well as campsites for RV vehicles.

A 12-minute walk up the hill gives you the best of both worlds—nine double occupancy cabins are nestled together in a beautiful and private grove of oak trees. Cabins have electricity and heat, but no plumbing, and share a separate bath facility nearby. (Sorry, all cabins are currently SOLD OUT.)

Accommodation Rates will vary depending on your room preference, here are a few options Mount Madonna Center offers:

Mt. Madonna offers a limited number of rooms with private bathrooms. These will be made available to those with special needs. If you have a special need or medical condition requiring a private bathroom, please let us know on the Special Requests form. If you like, you can request a roommate from our group after you complete your registration.

Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dining at Mount Madonna

Mount Madonna Center provides three delicious, healthy buffet-style meals each day. Each meal is cooked with great care and love, using healthy and natural ingredients.

All meals at Mount Madonna Center are strictly vegetarian, always offering non-dairy and non-gluten alternatives. The Center also strives to meet other special dietary needs, such as high protein or allergen avoidance, but cannot guarantee that all special needs will be met. (Note: You may not bring in your own food.)

Mount Madonna Center serves three meals a day, Sunday through Friday—breakfast, lunch and dinner. On Saturdays there are two meals—brunch and dinner—with a snack in between.

Step 2: Once you’ve registered for the retreat, you’ll be directed to review and select your Accommodations Package on the next page.

Step 3 (optional): On the Accommodations Package page, you’ll have the opportunity to submit your Special Requests form. Use this form to submit a request for a roommate or to indicate your meal preference. You can also access this form from your Welcome Email.
